Don’t get me wrong, I love this time of year and all the festivities…sparkly lights, Christmas music and mulled wine, but the one thing I don’t like is the darkness. When it’s cold and dark outside I want nothing more than to be at home snuggles up in a nice cosy blanket with candles on and a nice cup of tea in hand (or maybe a mulled wine). I am currently loving the Dragonfly tea collection, especially the jasmine pearls green tea, perfect to sip while you are unwinding in front of the TV.
Anyway, on my nights in I need something to keep the boredom from creeping in. There is nothing better than starting a new series, one that you can’t stop watching and have to watch episodes back to back. If you’re like me and in need of a good old series to get stuck into, then here are my recommendations….
The ultimate medical drama that I have been obsessed with for many years, following Meredith Grey and her friends through multiple crazy situations while they pursue their careers as surgeons. Every episode sends you on an emotional roller coaster, I regularly end up crying on the sofa by myself but there are some amazing heart-warming moments also. With 13 series, 20 something episodes long each you can lose days getting stuck into this show.
A Netflix-original thrilling drama released earlier this year is one to watch if you like science fiction and some mystery. The 8 episodes follow a group of friends on their antics while mysterious things occur in their small Indiana town. Watching this reminded me of ET, which brings back fond childhood memories.
A girly favourite from early 2000’s, what teenage girl wouldn’t get addicted to a fast-paced witty TV show about a mother and daughter. I’ve recently rekindled my love for this in a bid to re-watch all 7 series before the revival – Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life. Watching the ever evolving relationships between Stars Hollow town residents, especially Lorelai Gilmore and her daughter, Rory who play the main characters, just draws you in and you want to know more as you follow their everyday lives.
What’s not to love about this series – the fashion, the accent, the twisted drama. I loved getting into this series and following the antics of Tommy Shelby and his gangster family. Set in industrial post-war Birmingham, you’ll love following the criminal activities that centre around the Peaky Blinders.
The Walking Dead
Everyone’s wondered what it would be like if we were hit by a zombie apocalypse. This has to be the best horror-drama series depicting that exact thing, following the lives and struggles of a group trying to survive and rebuild their livelihood.
This has to be on everyone’s watch list! Follow the drama as it unravels while Walter White tries to do right by his family once he receives some bad news. All on Netflix for easy viewing, get ready to lose hours of your life to this one as I have no doubt you will get drawn in by this show and not want to stop watching.
