Earlier this year I took my mum to Champneys Health Spa in Tring for a little TLC and to celebrate a special birthday. I had heard so much about Champneys and they had a lot to live up to based on all the hype. Don’t worry, they didn’t disappoint.
From the very second you enter the grounds you get a sense of what your visit is going to be like. Past the gates lies pristine gardens and gives a sense of wellbeing right from the start.
As you carry on down the long Downton-esque driveway you approach the beautiful building before parking up. Set in 170 acres of idyllic Hertfordshire countryside, it’s a true haven of tranquillity.
The particular week before we were visiting had been extremely hectic and it couldn’t have come at a better time. The Champneys team have a magical ability to instantly relax you, the moment you step inside the gorgeous Manor House. I left all my stress at the front door!
We were checked in promptly and led to the breakfast room for some healthy refreshments. Afterwards we received a personal tour of the spa and eagerly changed into our robs to start our relaxation day.
What to do at Champneys…
Besides the expected swimming pool, sauna and jacuzzi, Champneys facilities include a wide array of relaxations rooms, it has fitness studios, an outdoor jacuzzi, laconium heat room, steam room and more to choose from. You also have free rein of the estates grounds so if you want to take a stroll then it’s welcomed.
And of course, not forgetting the treatments…there are a huge amount to choose from but I recommend prebooking before your arrival as they get booked up. I went for the aromatherapy massage as I get extremely tense shoulders. After all 3 oils were explained to me I picked the most relaxing one, it was nice to know you could personalise the treatment in that way.
I left the room feeling completely relaxed and knot free. The therapist had magic hands!!
On the day we also visited the nail studio to treat ourselves to a pedicure. No spa day is complete without your nails being done.
In true health spa style you get a complimentary rob and flip flops for the visit. Nowhere else would it be acceptable to roam around in robes for the whole day but somehow at a spas its ok!
During your stay you get all your meals included, if you are there for the day you will get breakfast and lunch included. If you decide to stay the night you also get dinner. Our lunch on the day was surprisingly yummy, starting with a buffet style starter and followed by an a la carte main course and desert.
Overall I couldn’t fault the service and facilities at Champneys and I have been hankering to go back ever since.
Have you ever been to Champneys or do you recommend a different spa?
