So what’s there to say about the new Italian on the block..? I should probably start off by saying Italian food is my favourite. I mean, I LOVE pasta! I would eat Italian food everyday if it didn’t have an effect on my waist line. So when Tom offered to take me after I mentioned it a few times, I didn’t hesitate to accept the offer.
When I first read about Padella I knew I had to try it. I could tell from the limited and fairly simple menu it would be good. Places with smaller menus tend to do what they do very well. A restaurant doesn’t need a huge menu to be good, as long as it caters for most people’s likes.
From its modern, minimalist interior to its friendly and helpful staff, even before we ate I got a good vibe from the place.
When we were sat we got offered drinks quickly and menus were put in front of us straight away. I had practically memorised the menu already though.
To start we shared the burrata and sourdough. They were relatively simple dishes but the burrata was perfectly creamy and seasoned well with salt and pepper.
For mains we picked the ricotta ravioli and beef shin ragu dish to share. The ravioli of ricotta and sage butter was a lovely dish. The creamy buttery sauce went well with the slightly bitter ricotta filling. But, wow, the pappardelle with 8-hour beef shin ragu was delicious. This was our favourite dish by far. Beautiful fresh pasta and the ragu was amazing. Soft, melt in the mouth meat, exactly what you’d expect.
To finish we shared the salted caramel ice cream and chocolate tart. Both together complement each other. The ice cream was a lovely light and refreshing sweet treat after so much savoury.
I don’t know whether you can tell but I rather liked Padella. I so wanted to try more of the menu but that will just have to wait until next time.
