Exploring the UK’s most romantic city

Exploring the UK’s most romantic city

Last minute trips are the best. There’s nothing better than booking a spontaneous getaway. Last Friday that’s exactly what Tom and I did. Googling away at 9 in the evening, that’s when we decided to book a night in Bath. Somewhere neither of us had been before but is only around 2 hours away from home.

As it was so last minute there wasn’t a huge choice of hotels left but we found the lovely Dukes of Bath B&B which was in the perfect location.

The weather wasn’t the best, but then what did we expect, it’s the UK! It’s always the way, when you plan a trip in the UK, the weather is bad!! We did manage to get a few hours of sunshine though which was perfect for wondering around the famous cobble streets and viewing the stunning Georgian honey-stoned buildings.

Bath isn’t a massive town so we saw majority of it on our first day. We did a lot of meandering around the beautiful streets and admiring the gorgeous architecture. As well as the obligatory visit to the Roman Baths and Royal Crescent.

After a morning full of walking and sightseeing we needed to recharge so found a nice pub towards our hotel to warm up in with a few delicious nibbles.

Shortly after we checked into our hotel and freshened up in time to go back out and see Bath by night. I have this 6th sense to scout out rooftops wherever I go, so the first stop was Hall & Woodhouse for a few drinks. swiftly followed by a few other pubs before dinner at the Firehouse Rotisserie.

We woke on Sunday refreshed from one of the most peaceful sleeps ever and had one last stop to make before heading home – a visit to Thermae Bath Spa. Talk about leaving the best til last! With a heated rooftop pool, newly opened wellness suite and relaxing indoor baths, I was in heaven.

For £38 per person you get 2 hours in the spa with full use of all the facilities and a rob, flip flops and towel. It was the perfect way to end the weekend.

With it’s naturally beautiful setting, historic features and so many nice activities to do as couples, it’s easy to see why Bath is named one of the most romantic cities. Has anyone else visited Bath? What would be your top recommendations?

Love this post – spontaneous trips are the best! Bath has been on my list for a while but I haven’t made it there yet. I’m very jealous that you live only 2 hours away!

Aah, I’m so jealous that you were able to go on a spontaneous trip like this – I would love to do that sometime! It looks like you had a great time, and you took beautiful photos! I’ve never been to the UK but it is definitely at the top of my list. Thanks for sharing!

Well if you haven’t been to the UK before, Bath is a lovely place to visit when you do. Very English and has lots of history to see x

Loved reading this post! I live just outside of Bath (in fact I’m off out shopping there tomorrow) and it is one of my favourite cities, I definitely take advantage of living right next to it! I’m so glad you chose to go to the Therma Spa, it is just a day of pure relaxation…I love it so much!

A few more recommendations from me: explore and walk around Alexandra Park (which is beautiful too in the Summer and when it’s good weather, not so much when it’s dull and raining), Go down the small alleys of quirky shops and sweet stores (you find some great things), Walk from the city centre to the Royal Crescent, if you have children with you then take them to Victoria Park or go and play crazy golf, their course is great! Sorry I went a little crazy with recommendations haha, I should do a post about it I think haha!
I actually haven’t heard of Firehouse Rotisserie but it sounds lovely so it’ll be a new one to try next time!

I’m so glad you loved Bath, it’s definitely a beautiful city.

Thanks Abbie 🙂 It is such a nice place. We did lots of exploring round the cobble streets and walked up to the Royal Crescent which was nice. Have fun on your visit today. Wish I was going back x

This looks like such a lovely little trip! I desperately want to visit Bath (it’s not too far from me either as I’m just in Greater London/on the edge of Surrey) but I have never got round to visiting! My family went without me last year haha and so just got to find someone to go with. Love last minute trips – I was in the Peak District for the first time last weekend for just one night and that was so good… sometimes just nice to get out of the city 🙂

I am based in the same area and it didn’t take us long at all to drive there, plus you get to drive through some of the Cotswolds so it’s a pretty drive 🙂 x

This is so lovely! I always like the idea of taking a weekend away somewhere like this, looks like a lot of fun! I also love rooftop bars/restaurants so that’s amazing!

We loved Bath so much, too! Ran out of time to visit the Thermae Bath Spa, though. Still regret that because it sounds amazing!

Funny…the weather was awful while we were in Bath, too. Isn’t that always the case? 😉
