A question that has been floating around the office and in conversations for the last week or so now. Officially it isn’t quite autumn yet but it sure feels like it already. The temperatures dropped and nights are drawing in. I love autumn but why are we all so obsessed with it? It may have something to do with the crisp autumnal days and the candle lit nights cosying up inside. There is so much to love about autumn but here’s my highlights.
The dark rainy nights are the perfect excuse to stay in and cook cosy dinners – stews, soups, risottos, mmm so many delicious homely meals to cook. Soups are one of my favourite things to make in autumn, particularly on a Sunday when you can bulk make for the week ahead.
Nothing is better than snuggling up with a hearty dinner and listening to the rain outside. This is also the season when the slow cooker comes into its own. Stews blipping away all day and that delicious smell that hits you as you walk in the door after a long day’s work. Can you tell I am getting excited about this?! 🙂
Autumn seems to be full of fun events like bonfire night and Halloween. Who’s already planning their Halloween costume..? Besides from all the events, there is also one key activity everyone likes in the autumn – long autumnal walks on the crisp dry days. Wrapping up and going for a wonder is one of my favourite things to do in autumn, when we get a good day.
Chunky knits, ankle boots and layers galore. It’s all about layering in autumn and I love nothing more than doing this. There is something so cosy about layering up all warm but it’s freezing outside. And let’s all just take a minute to lust over the autumnal hues – plums, greens, beige and, of course black.
I’m probably going to sound quite old here but I love staying in at home in autumn, all cuddling up with a nice cup of tea, surrounded by candles and having my favourite Netflix series on. This autumn I am particularly looking forward to cosy nights in as we have finished our flat renovations and I cannot wait to make it super cosy with so many throws, candles and pillows everywhere. I can see Tom rolling his eyes as I write this but who can resist..?!
So as I said at the beginning of this post, there is so much to love about autumn I guess I am one of those people that cannot wait for the leaves to fall and my sweaters to come out. What do you love about autumn?
