There is no doubt about it, in recent years I definitely think there has been a rise in popularity with buying and sourcing local goods. For me, visiting a market is great fun! I love wondering about looking at all of the stalls. I go a bit crazy whenever I visit our local market, or any market as a matter of fact. My favourite things to buy at a market are cheese and bread (of course it had to be around food). I am a little bit of a cheese lover and find there is no better way to discover new cheese than at a market. I also find it fascinating how much the suppliers know about their product, it is a great way to learn something new.
Buying local veg and fruit is also up there! It always looks so advertising and much fresher than some supermarkets. I end up coming home with a real mix of stuff I wouldn’t usually buy at the shops.
Something I have only recently started liking is olives! I always used to stop and stare at all of the lovely olives but wouldn’t dream of buying any, this all changed recently! Now I cannot get enough of them, and like veg, they always taste so much nicer from a market than anywhere else. I am so happy I can now join in and enjoy olives!
I recently wrote a blog post about Notting Hill and the wonders of Portobello Road market, which does have some fantastic food stalls but it has so much more to look at. Music, silver, leather, clothes, flowers and so much more to take in. It’s well worth a visit.
This week I was also very luck to be part of a London Local Etsy Team project for the Crouch End Handmade Spring Market. On the 14th May 11- 4pm there is going to be over 50 local London Etsy stalls in Hornsey Town Hall Arts Centre, expect to see an array of beautiful and unique handmade products from home decor to jewellery. I will definitely be making an appearance. The team have also said that the 50 visitors will also get a free goody bag and guess what…the goody bags were all designed by myself and some other lovely bloggers. Hope to see some of you there!
